They are one of Western Australia’s oldest legal practices, operating in Western Australia since the 1890s when Michael Gibson Lavan, KC first set up practice in Perth. Lavan & Walsh was formed in 1920 and they practiced under that name until 1983 when they became Lavan Solomon. In 1985, together with firms in Sydney and Melbourne, they commenced trading as a franchise under the name Phillips Fox. In late 2005 they terminated that franchise and in 2006 established Lavan Legal through a merger of the majority of the Perth partners of Phillips Fox with the litigation and corporate firm Bennett & Co.
