Baldock Stacy & Niven has a heritage going back more than 100 years, to the firm's founding by Herbert Henry Lee in 1891. Over a century later the focus of the firm remains unchanged: a belief in the importance of understanding their client's needs, of adapting to the continuing challenges of business, and of delivering quality professional services in a timely and cost effective manner.

Herbert Lee, who was a native of Bathurst and representative rugby footballer, was admitted to practice law on 20 November 1889, and soon entered into partnership with Percy Colquhoun forming the law firm of Lee and Colquhoun in 1891.

Colquhoun was the son of George Colquhoun, one of the first solicitors to practice in New South Wales. George once successfully defended Ben Hall, the bushranger, on a charge of cattle stealing. An accident while driving around Forbes resulted in a broken ankle, and after a five day coach journey to Sydney for treatment, George's gangrenous foot had to be amputated.
